Let's Go Surfin' Now.... On a River in the Mountains of Colorado?

Tuesday July 22, 2008
The Colorado and Roaring Fork rivers have long been popular water-based playgrounds for boaters, anglers, kayakers, river-rafters and even inner-tubers. But a new sport has made its way to the waterways in and around Glenwood Springs: stand-up paddling.

This fun activity also known as “river surfing” is an off-shoot of paddling upright in the ocean on a surfboard. It’s a sight more typically seen off the coast of Hawaii, not in the mountains of Colorado. Paddlers new to the sport can practice their maneuvers at the brand-new Glenwood Whitewater Park on the Colorado River. You can even sign up for lessons at the Aspen Kayak Academy.

The Eagles Soared and the Lightning Danced - All During Our Verde Canyon Railroad Trip

Sunday July 20, 2008
What a way to see the beauty of Arizona! Yesterday, we experienced the natural beauty of the amazing Verde River Canyon via a 4 hour rail trip through the canyon, across trestles, through a tunnel and back. We saw Sinagua Indian ruins perched high above in the canyon walls, saw eagles soaring and enjoyed the views of the meandering Verde River. On the way back the clouds gathered and we were treated to a thunder and lightning show. Here's our Verde Canyon Railroad Article and Review.
